“Closer to Me”
12 Photographers. One Curator. A Shared Vision.

Berlin/Arles, July 2025 – Intimate, poetic, political: With Closer to Me, the German Photographic Society (DGPh) presents the second edition of its Art Drop from July 9 to 18, 2025 – curated by Berlin-based art historian, curator and founder of the JAEGER ART gallery, Steffi Jaeger. For the first time, the project will take place not only online, but also physically during the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles.

Twelve Artists – Twelve Photographic Perspectives
The exhibition brings together works by twelve acclaimed female photographers who explore the theme of closeness – to themselves, to others, and to the world around them. Their images speak of identity, vulnerability, and resistance. They invite reflection – quiet, powerful, and full of presence.

Participating artists:
Jessica Backhaus · Evelyn Bencicova · Viktoria Binschtok · Mona Kuhn · Anna Lehmann-Brauns · Vera Mercer · Anja Niemi  · Anne Schönharting · Pola Sieverding · Vee Speers · Miriam Tölke  ·  Donata Wenders

Online & On-Site: From Screen to Arles
For the first time, the Art Drop will be presented in a physical space: From July 9 to 12, 2025, the works will be on view at a temporary exhibition venue in Arles (26 Rue du Dr. Fanton). The opening event will take place on July 9 from 5 to 7 PM, with participating artists and the curator in attendance.
The DGPh will also offer the ArtDrop from July 9 to 18, 2025 at https://dgphartdrop.de

Collector's Edition
Each work will be available as a signed and certified edition (20×25 cm, Archival Pigment Print, produced by Oschatz Visuelle Medien) for €280* per print. A complete box set of all twelve works will be available exclusively during the drop for €2,290*. After the event, these editions will no longer be available in this format.

Supporting the Culture of Photography
A portion of the proceeds will support the nonprofit work of the DGPh – helping to empower not only the participating artists, but also the future of the photographic medium itself.

Curator’s Statement – Steffi Jaeger:
"Closer To Me - Twelve positions, twelve perspectives: this selection brings together twelve female artists, each represented by a single photographic work, entering into a quiet yet powerful dialogue. Their images oscillate between personal reflection, social observation, and experimental aesthetics. Whether documentary, staged, or conceptual – each photograph reflects a distinct artistic voice and demonstrates the richness and strength of female perspectives in contemporary photography.
This collection is not a closed narrative, but an open invitation – a glimpse into what artistic photography can be today: direct, poetic, unsettling, subtle, loud – and always relevant.“
