 “Closer to Me”
12 Photographers. One Curator. A Shared Vision.
Exhibition | DGPh ART DROP #002 - Steffi Jaeger

July 7 to 12, 2025, 26 Rue du Docteur Fanton, Arles
Opening event: July 9, 5 pm

Berlin/Arles, July 2025 - Intimate, poetic, political: With the exhibition Closer to Me, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) presents twelve artistic positions by twelve female artists from July 7 to 12, 2025 during the opening week of the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles. The exhibition accompanies the second edition of the DGPh Art Drop, which can be experienced physically for the first time.

The exhibition brings together works by twelve renowned female photographers, each of whom thematize closeness in their own way - to themselves, to others and to the world. Their images tell of identity, vulnerability and resistance. They invite you to pause for a moment - quietly, forcefully and full of power. On display are works by:

Jessica Backhaus - Evelyn Bencicova - Viktoria Binschtok - Mona Kuhn - Anna Lehmann-Brauns - Vera Mercer - Anja Niemi - Anne Schönharting - Pola Sieverding - Vee Speers - Miriam Tölke - Donata Wenders.

The opening event will take place on July 9 from 5-7 pm - with the artists and the curator present.

Curator’s Statement – Steffi Jaeger:
"Closer To Me - Twelve positions, twelve perspectives: this selection brings together twelve female artists, each represented by a single photographic work, entering into a quiet yet powerful dialogue. Their images oscillate between personal reflection, social observation, and experimental aesthetics. Whether documentary, staged, or conceptual – each photograph reflects a distinct artistic voice and demonstrates the richness and strength of female perspectives in contemporary photography.

This collection is not a closed narrative, but an open invitation – a glimpse into what artistic photography can be today: direct, poetic, unsettling, subtle, loud – and always relevant.“
